A flip chip light emitting diode having a dielectric reflector is provided to improve the luminous efficiency by decreasing the light to be lost in unwanted direction by using the dielectric reflector. A flip chip emitting diode includes a dielectric reflector(202) formed under a doped layer to reflect the light emitted from an active layer(106) towards an upper surface. The dielectric reflector is formed under an n-type or p-type doped layer(107,105). The dielectric reflector contains at least one of SiOx, SixNy, HfO2, and ZrO2. A current diffusion layer(201) is interposed between the dielectric reflector and the doped layer to supply an electric current to the entire surface of the doped layer.
