The device has an extended light source having punctual light sources (101) spaced along two orthogonal axes (X, Y). A waveguide (11) in polymer or glass propagates light beams by total reflections in a propagating direction (Z) perpendicular to the axes. A light diffusing unit (12) scatters light in waveguide output. Length (L) of the waveguide along the direction (Z) is sufficient such that a light intensity curve has a maximum value and a minimum value in the output along one of the axes. The difference between the values is less than or equal to 0.3 times the minimum value.
