1.METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING 2-HYDROXY-4-METHYLTHIOBUTYRIC ACID (MHA) AND USE THEREOF. 2.1KNOWN TECHNICAL METHODS USE FOR ISOLATING MHA FROM THE REACTION MIXTURE OBTAINED DURING THE HYDROLYSIS OF MMP-CYANOHYDRIN A LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRACTION OR A COMBINED LIQUID-LIQUID AND SOLID-LIQUID PHASE SEPARATION. THE METHODS ARE EITHER EXPENSIVE OR WASTE MATERIALS DIFFICULT TO DISPOSE OF ARE OBTAINED. 2.2THESE DISADVANTAGES ARE OVERCOME BY THE ISOLATION OF MHA BY MEANS OF A SOLID/LIQUID SEPARATION, IN WHICH THE REACTION MIXTURE IS EVAPORATED WITH THE OBTAINING OF AN MHA-CONTAINING SALT RESIDUE RANGING FROM FREE OF RESIDUAL WATER TO POSSESSING A LOW RESIDUAL WATER CONTENT, THE MHA-CONTAINING SALT RESIDUE IS THEN TREATED WITH AN ORGANIC SOLVENT WITH THE OBTAINING OF A SUSPENSION, THE SOLID COMPONENTS ARE THEN SEPARATED FROM THE SUSPENSION WITH THE OBTAINING OF AN MHA-CONTAINING SOLUTION, THEREAFTER THE ORGANIC SOLVENT IS REMOVED FROM THE MHA-CONTAINING SOLUTION WITH THE OBTAINING OF AN MHA RESIDUE AND OPTIONALLY THEREAFTER THE MHA RESIDUE IS CONDITIONED BY THE ADDITION OF WATER. IN ADDITION TO HIGH-GRADE MHA, MERCHANTABLE CRYSTALLINE AMMONIUM SULPHATE AND/OR AMMONIUM HYDROGENSULPHATE IS OBTAINED.2.3ANIMAL FODDER SUPPLEMENT.
