1,030,643. Sealing tape applying apparatus. CLEMSON INDUSTRIES Inc. Feb. 18, 1964 [Feb. 25, 1963], No. 6779/64. Heading B8F. Apparatus for securing sealing tape over apertures in a moving sheet is attachable to apparatus for forming tetrahedron containers from the said sheet and comprises heated pressure sealing members mounted on a frame movable in the direction of sheet movement during the application. A sheet 10 has apertures 11, 12 punched therein by mechanism 40 before passing tape sealing mechanism for the application of severed tape seals 13, 14 by heater platens 76, 77 mounted on a carriage body 61 movable over a bed 60. Tapes 62, 63 are fed from rolls by a feed cylinder 81 until measured end portions extend through guides 70, 71 for severing by co-operating blade members as pressure cylinders 72, 73 depress the platens 76, 77 into sealing engagement with the sheet 10. The cylinders 72, 73, 81 are operated in timed relation to the movement of the sheet 10 so that the tapes 62, 63 are advanced and their end portions severed as the holes 11, 12 arrive under the platens 76, 77 which then engage the sheet 10 sealing the seals 13, 14 in position. While the platens are in engagement with the sheet 10, the carriage 61 moves with it to the phantom line position in which a push-rod 120 is contacted to cause the platens to be lifted and a cylinder 97 to return the carriage to its initial position for the start of the next cycle. The sheet 10 may be of laminated material, one layer of which at least is of thermoplastic material which is also included in the tapes 62, 63 which may also be laminated. The attachment is by a heat sealing action. |
