PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for friction stir welding, the tool that effectively prevents a rotary shaft from deflecting in friction stir welding. SOLUTION: A weld zone in which members to be joined are abutted on each other is held between an upper rotor and a lower rotor. A stirring shaft 103 that rotates integrally between the upper and lower rotors 101, 102 is moved along the weld zone, thereby joining the members to be joined by frictional heat, in friction stir welding. Also, on the shoulders of the upper and lower rotors 101, 102, there are provided a plurality of recessed grooves formed in the radial and circumferential directions. In the tool 100 for friction stir welding, each block sectioned by the recessed grooves has the surface formed inclined in the rotating direction and/or the center direction.
