PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive virtual storage device substantially having no upper limit for storage capacity. SOLUTION: The virtual storage device 10 which receives a writing request from a transmitting source host transmits an echo request containing storage data to at least one of transmitting destination hosts 21-2n connected to the Internet 2. The transmitting destination host which received the echo request returns an echo response containing the storage data. The virtual storage device 10 transmits, upon receipt of the echo response, the echo request containing the storage data again. The echo requesting and the echo responding are repeated thereafter, whereby the storage data is reciprocated on communication lines between the transmitting source host and the transmitting destination hosts and retained for a long time on the Internet.
