摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a vapor-grown carbon fiber obtaining a vapor-grown carbon fiber at a very low cost by using a furnace having a pyrolysis zone and a combustion zone, in which the heating temperature and the air supply amount are respectively controllable, in substitution for a CVD method. SOLUTION: The apparatus 1 for producing a vapor-grown carbon fiber is equipped with a screw feeder 4 for feeding a biomass raw material into a furnace 2, a pyrolysis zone 5 having a first high temperature air introducing nozzle 6 where the fed raw material is pyrolyzed at 500-800°C, a combustion zone 7 having a second high temperature air introducing nozzle 8 where the pyrolysis product is combusted at 900-1,300°C, and a char-bed zone 9 where the combustion residue passing through the combustion zone 7 is kept and carbon radicals in the pyrolysis gas are grown to form a vapor-grown carbon fiber.
