PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension adjusting mechanism capable of suitably adjusting tension in conveying a roll-like conveyed medium, and a medium conveying apparatus and a recording apparatus including the tension adjusting mechanism. SOLUTION: This tension adjusting mechanism generates fixed inertia and fixed torque between the conveyed medium and a conveying roller by generating mechanisms 20, 30 to adjust the tension in conveying the conveyed medium R wound like a roll using the conveying roller 141. Thus, fixed load can be applied regardless of residual amount of conveyed media, and even if the conveyed medium is fed back, tension can be applied to the conveyed medium.
