PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bristle material for a makeup brush and the makeup brush having superior makeup powder containing property and application property compared with the conventional synthetic resin bristle material for the makeup brush, having features such as extremely favorable texture for the skin, and exerting the performance equal to the animal hair. SOLUTION: This bristle material for the makeup brush is characterized in consisting of a cut bristle of synthetic resin modified cross-section monofilaments having a plurality of projecting parts and recessed parts on the cross-section, alternately having compressed deformation parts and non-compressed parts along the length direction of the cut bristle, wherein the ratio a/b of the long diameter (a) to the short diameter (b) of the cross-section of the compressed deformation part is within 1.4-2.5, and having at least one end of the cut bristle formed into a tapered shape.
