<p>A method of paging a mobile station in idle mode includes the following steps: a paging controller sends a paging announce message to a base station, and then a timer is started and a threshold of paging count is set; the base station sends a paging message to the mobile station; if no paging response message from the mobile station is received before the overtime of the timer, the base station compares paging counts with the threshold, and in accordance with the result of the comparison, the paging controller sends the paging announce message again or stops paging. A method of stopping paging a mobile station in idle mode includes the following steps: when a base station in a paging group has received a paging response message from the mobile station, the network sends a paging stop message to at least one of the other base stations; the at least one of the other base stations stop the paging procedure. A paging device is also provided in the mode of carrying out the utility model, which includes: a central processing unit for setting a threshold of paging count and judging if the paging response message has been received.
