PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demultiplexer which can automatically distinguish an encoding system which encodes demultiplexed data of each channel without using a control channel. SOLUTION: A demultiplexing unit 11 demultiplexes data in each channel. An encoding system distinguishing unit 12 distinguishes whether the encoding system which encodes the data, is the PCM A-law encoding system, the ITU-T G. 726 (ADPCM) encoding system, the ITU-T G. 766 (FAX), the DATA encoding system used for data encoding at least including E-Mail or the common channel signal, or another encoding system based on whether occurrence frequencies of particular codewords defined beforehand, or bit numbers not agreed between neighboring codewords, have data features showing larger or smaller than predetermined threshold values for each codeword divided in a predetermined unit.
