PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for dynamically controlling the ion-monitoring period. SOLUTION: This method or the like dynamically controls the ion detection period of a scanning mass spectrometer. The method includes a step for statistically monitoring the output signal from the detector of the mass spectrometer, during the detection of a single m/z ion; and a step for completing the period for detecting ions, when the calculation of statistically effective cumulative statistical values, or the calculation for indicating that satisfactory statistical values is not possible in the period, in comparison with predetermined statistical threshold is obtained.
