PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission electron source device which has solved problems such as a display image with low contrast and a photograph image with many after-images due to shortage of electron beams reaching a target. SOLUTION: The electron beams emitted from a field emission electron source array 10 reach a target 3 passing through a plurality of through holes formed in an auxiliary electrode 8. Each of the plurality of through holes of the auxiliary electrode 8 has an opening on the field emission electron source array side and an electron beam passage continuing from the opening. An electron multiplication layer which multiplies the electron beams entered is provided at least at a part of the electron beam passage. An electron absorption layer composed of a material having a small secondary-electron emission factor is provided at the target 3 side auxiliary electrode 8. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
