PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for treads, which reduces dependency on petroleum resources as raw materials and has better grip performance, rolling resistance and abrasion resistance than those of rubber compositions for treads, mainly consisting of raw materials originated from petroleum resources. SOLUTION: This rubber composition for the treads is characterized by comprising, based on 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component comprising 20 to 80 wt.% of natural rubber and 20 to 80 wt.% of an epoxidized natural rubber, 50 to 130 pts.wt. of silica, and a silane compound represented by the general formula: (X)<SB>n</SB>-Si-Y<SB>(4-n)</SB>[X is ethoxy or methoxy; Y is phenyl or an alkyl; (n) is an integer of 1 to 3] in an amount of 4 to 16 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the silica.
