The device has a fixing station (FX) comprising a gas burner, which is arranged adjacent to a recording medium (3) e.g. paper, where a fuel gas is supplied to the gas burner based on the temperature of a recording medium at an outlet of the fixing station. The supply of the fuel gas to the gas burner is switched on or off in the rhythm of the start-/stop-operation of the recording medium. Heat energy is produced from a gas flame (5) of the burner and is directed on toner pictures (7) and the recording medium.
