<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus and a density detection method, in which recording density is accurately detected for the correction of unevenness in density, the correction of recording misregistration, an increase in the accuracy of tone expression of an image, etc. <P>SOLUTION: When a recording head performs scanning and records the image on a recording medium which is placed on a platen, it detects the density of the image through the following steps. An optical sensor, which irradiates the recording medium with light and detects the density of the image, is operated with first timing, so as to measure reflected light from a first area, in which the image is not recorded, on the recording medium. Subsequently, the optical sensor is operated with second timing, so as to measure reflected light from a second area, in which the image is recorded, on the recording medium. The degree of influence from the platen is evaluated on the basis of the measured reflected lights, and the degree of the influence from the platen is eliminated from the reflected light which is measured in the second area, so that the density of the image can be determined. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
