<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an intermediate holding mechanism 20 for holding a control shaft 8 in an intermediate position at an engine start. <P>SOLUTION: A lift/operating angle of an intake/exhaust valve is continuously changed in response to a rotating position of a control shaft 8 driven by an actuator. The device is provided with a coil spring 24 for biasing a plunger 22 movably provided to a housing 23 in a protrusive direction (upward in the figure) toward a protrusive position. The plunger is kept in a retreat position of retreating from a stopper 21 of the control shaft 8 by oil pressure in a hydraulic chamber 25 during engine operation. The plunger 22 gradually moves in a protrusive direction in accordance with an oil pressure drop in the hydraulic chamber 25 during an engine stop. The rotating position of the stopper 21 in the control shaft 8 is held in a prescribed intermediate position by the plunger 22 in the retreat position at an engine start. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
