<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarized light conversion film which can have a birefringent material aligned uniformly in a fixed direction by a rubbing method, and improves light use efficiency for a display such as a liquid crystal display and has high luminance improvement effect and superior productivity when used for reflection type and translucent type liquid crystal display elements, and to provide its manufacturing method, a polarizing element which is increased in light transmissivity using the polarized light conversion film, and a liquid crystal display device whose luminance is improved by using the polarized light conversion film. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed are the polarized light conversion film which has a structure comprising a polarized light separating layer separating incident light into two linear polarized light beams having mutually orthogonal electric field vectors and a polarized light converting layer converting the polarized light states of the linear polarized light beams, the structure containing an optical isotropic material and having its surface brought into contact with a layer where the birefringent material is previously aligned; and its manufacturing method. Further, disclosed is the polarizing element which is increased in light transmissivity by using the polarized light conversion film; and the liquid crystal display device which is improved in luminance by using the polarized light conversion film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
