PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polyester which is friendly to the environment and suitable for use in anti-pilling fiber, by solving problems caused in the manufacture of a polyester resin by carrying out a polycondensation reaction with the addition of a plenty of phosphoric acid, and by using no heavy metals such as antimony and others. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing such a polyester as a polyester resin of a polyethylene terephthalate or of the main body thereof, comprises adding, to a polyester oligomer having an average degree of polymerization of 10 or less a 1-10% by mass of phosphoric acid glycol solution in a manner of the phosphoric acid of 0.5-1.0% by mole relative to the acid component of a polyester, carrying out an esterification reaction for 0.2-2 hours, thereafter adding, as a polymerization catalyst, 30-250 ppm of a magnesium compound having a titanic acid covering layer formed and carrying out the polycondensation reaction until the intrinsic viscosity reaches 0.55 or more.
