Disclosed is a hair dying composition comprising a first solution and a second solution and shows a pH value of 7.5 to 12 when used, wherein the first solution comprises (a) a nitrogenated compound represented by the general formula (1) or a salt thereof and the second solution comprises (b) an oxidizing agent. (1) wherein n =1 or 2; and R¹ and R³ to R⁵ independently represent H, a hydroxyl group, an alkyl group having 12 carbon atoms or less which may have a substituent, or the like; and R² represents a hydroxyl group, -R or -OR (wherein R is as defined for R¹ to R⁵), provided that two or more of R¹ to R⁵ may together form a 3- to 8-membered ring which may have a substituent.
