<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus in which an image reading unit is prevented from being rapidly opened when the unit is opened and force required to open and close the image reading unit is small, and whose space and costs are reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: a toggle type compression spring unit 7 which serves as an opening and closing mechanism for an image reading unit 2; a braking means which brakes the opening and closing movement of the image reading unit; and a switching means which transmits turning of the image reading unit to the braking unit when the image reading unit closes, but does not transmit the turning of the image reading unit to the braking unit when the image reading unit opens. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
