PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide biodegradable polyester fiber for fiber separation, which seldom causes yarn breakages and/or fluffs in its crimping and/or separation, gives woven/knitted fabrics obtained by being separated followed by weaving/knitting and excellent in softness or touch feeling without rough/stiff touch, thus suitable for life material applications, hygienic material applications and clothing material applications. SOLUTION: The biodegradable polyester fiber is made from an aliphatic polyester having a melting point of 130°C or higher and subjected to fiber separation after crimping. The biodegradable polyester fiber is 20-40 dtex in single filament fineness, 60-100% in elongation at break and the number of filaments is 6-12.
