METHOD OF DETERMINING THE SHAPE OF A WELD POOL APPEARING DURING IMPLEMENTATION OF A WELDING PROCESS

Method of determining the shape of a weld pool. According to the method: a) a welding process is selected; b) a two-dimensional or three-dimensional virtual pool shape is selected; c) the shape of the virtual weld pool is modelled by a mathematical function that contains parameters to be identified; d) the temperature field in a virtual solid surrounding the weld pool is calculated by imposing boundary conditions; e) an actual example of the first and second parts (2, 4) is manufactured; f) they are welded by means of the selected process; g) the temperature is measured at M points in the actual solid zone; h) the temperatures measured in step g) are compared with the temperatures calculated, at the same points, in step d), by calculating the function (I) in two dimensions or the function (II) in three dimensions; i) S(G) is compared with a predefined value; j) if S(G) is greater than the predefined value, another virtual pool shape is selected and steps c) to h) are repeated until S(G) is smaller than the predefined value; and k) if or when S(G) is smaller than the predefined value, the shape of the virtual weld pool that has allowed S(G) to be calculated is accepted as actual value and the temperature field calculated from this shape is accepted as the actual temperature field.
