<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus designed so as to easily and highly precisely detect displacement of a conveyance belt for conveying transfer paper to which an image is transferred or displacement of an intermediate transfer belt to which an image is directly transferred. <P>SOLUTION: In the color image forming apparatus 1, IC tags Tij for transmitting/receiving information by radio are embedded in predetermined positions of an intermediate transfer belt 41, and transmitting/receiving parts SD1 to SD3 are disposed so as to face the IC tags Tij accompanying the rotation of the intermediate transfer belt 41. In addition, the transmitting/receiving parts SD1 to SD3 transmit/receive information to/from the IC tags Tij by radio, thereby detecting the displacement of the intermediate transfer belt 41.
