PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which enable the quantification of polybiphenyl chlorides (PCBs) by sufficiently removing the coexisting substance contained in a hydrophobic sample containing PCBs to obstruct the quantification of PCBs by simple operation. SOLUTION: The quantitative method of PCBs includes the process for bringing the hydrophilic sample into contact with a fuming sulfuric acid impregnated silica gel, which is obtained by impregnating a silica gel with a BET specific surface area of 250-450 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a pore volume of 1.4-2.6 cm<SP>3</SP>/g with fuming sulfuric acid of which the free SO<SB>3</SB>concentration is 5-40 mass%, as a pretreatment process. The hydrophilic sample is added to a fuming sulfuric acid impregnated silica gel column filled with the fuming sulfuric acid impregnated silica gel to be passed therethrough.
