The method involves implementing a variable pressure support breathing by using a variation sample of a breathing way pressure (Pvn), where n varies in between a range of 1 to m, in a breathing device during spontaneous respiration. The variation sample of the pressure is determined after a predetermined distribution. The pressure is controlled by a computer, where the values of the breathing way pressure p and n forms a time-dependent, predetermined mean value (8). An independent claim is also included for a breathing device for pressure-supported spontaneous breathing based on the basis of a pressure support respiration.
