PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication device with high resistance to impersonation. SOLUTION: A cellular phone 1 comprises a camera 2 switchable to a closeup mode capable of closeup photography and to a general photographing mode, which picks up an image of a person to be authenticated; an inspection part 13 which detects whether the camera 2 is in the closeup mode or not; and a determination part 14 which determines that the person to be authenticated is not the principal when the inspection part 13 detects that the photographing mode of the camera 2 for the person to be authenticated is the closeup mode.
