PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of improving signal quality by enhancing crystallinity in a perpendicular magnetic recording layer. SOLUTION: A base layer, which includes NiFeCr where the concentration of Cr is within the range of 7-35 atom%, is arranged on a nonmagnetic substrate.
