PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce processing time required for reading or writing data which is stored in a serial memory, as to the serial memory and its control method. SOLUTION: An introduction command CMD0 for introducing the serial memory 10 to a read mode is input to serial data buses SIO0-SIO3, and a first address data AC1 for common use, to which a first mode switch command CMD1 specifying an increment of an address and a first start address ADR1 are assigned, are input to the serial data bus, and stored data D1 are read while carrying out the increment of the address and output from the serial data buses SIO0-SIO3. Consecutively, a second address data AC2 for common use, to which a second mode switch command CMD2 specifying a decrement and a second start address ADR2 are assigned, are input, and stored data D2 are read while carrying out the decrement and output from the serial data buses SIO0-SIO3.
