PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably feed a work to a chuck without stopping the rotation of a main axis in a lathe having a discharging device in which the work after worked is discharged with a spring force by compressing the spring through a pressing member provided at a tip of the spring in feeding the axial work to the chuck. SOLUTION: A recess 211 is beforehand formed on the work 201 at its front end when feeding it to the chuck 3. A tapered salient 38 to be fitted into the recess 211 is beforehand formed at a tip of the pressing member 31 provided at a tip of the spring 21. In order to feed the work 201 to the chuck 3 without stopping the rotation of the main axis 1, the work 201 is moved while being positioned to the chuck 3 from the front end to fit the recess 211 into the tapered salient 38 of the pressing member 31, thereby compressing the spring 21. Because the work 201 in the fitting condition is fed and whipping caused by a rotational force can be prevented, the work 201 can be stably fed to the chuck 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
