COATED CERMET THROWAWAY CUTTING TIP HAVING HARD COATING LAYER EXERTING EXCELLENT ANTI-CHIPPING PERFORMANCE IN HIGH-SPEED CUTTING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated cutting tip whose hard coating layer exerts excellent anti-chipping performance in high-speed cutting. SOLUTION: The coated cutting tip is structured so that the hard coating layer consisting of a Ti compound layer as lower layer and anα-type Al2O3layer as upper layer is formed by means of evaporation on the surface of the base of the tip, wherein the surface of theα-type Al2O3layer as the upper layer is polished by jetting a polishing liquid containing Al2O3particulates as a jet polishing material by means of wet blasting in such a condition that the polishing material layer consisting of titanium nitride is formed by evaporation on the whole surface of the Al2O3layer as the upper layer with a mean thickness of 0.5-5μm, wherein the surface roughness Ra should be no more than 0.2μm, and a pattern where the hard coating layer residual stress is reduced is formed on the surface to be polished by means of irradiation with laser beam.
