PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light scatter type liquid crystal display which maintains contrast and has high reflectivity. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates comprizing a rear-side first substrate 10 and of a display-side second substrate 20, a first electrode 15 and a second electrode 21 provided on main-surface sides of the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20, and a light-scattering liquid crystal layer 30 which is sandwiched between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20 via the first electrode 15 and the second electrode 21. An inter-layer insulating film 13, formed of a material which does not absorb light in the visible light range, is provided between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 15.
