A mobile communication system includes a mobile telephone device (1), a GSM network (100), and a W-CDMA network (200). The mobile telephone device (1) includes a control unit (17) which updates GSM operation frequency information or W-CDMA operation frequency information in a storage unit (18) by a DL frequency of a GSM cell or a W-CDMA cell detected by a GSM cell search processing unit (13) or a W-CDMA cell search processing unit (16). The control unit (17) decides an unused frequency not used in the respective frequency bands from the operation frequency information and causes the GSM cell search processing unit (13) or the W-CDMA cell search processing unit (16) to execute a cell search only in the frequency which may be operated, excluding the unused frequency.
