The sewing machine for plastic- or metal web, comprises sewing upper part (12) with an upper frame, a needle bar (38) that can be moved up and down at the upper frame for fixing a needle, a needle bar drive, a sewing product transport with a transport component to promote the sewing product in a sewing plane (78), and a control unit for the sewing product transport. The needle bar is led for their up- and down motion perpendicular to the sewing plane at a carriage, which moves back and forth parallel to the transport direction of the sewing product at the frames using a carriage actuator. The sewing machine for plastic- or metal web, comprises sewing upper part (12) with an upper frame, a needle bar (38) that can be moved up and down at the upper frame for fixing a needle, a needle bar drive, a sewing product transport with a transport component to promote the sewing product in a sewing plane (78), and a control unit for the sewing product transport. The needle bar is led for their up- and down motion perpendicular to the sewing plane at a carriage, which moves back and forth parallel to the transport direction of the sewing product at the frames using a carriage actuator. Each transport belts comprises an upper transport belts and lower transport belt combined with this. The drive for the needle bar, the carriage and if applicable, lower stitch forming components in each case are formed from eccentric drives. The device further includes punching- or drilling device for punching and drilling the needle stitching holes in the sewing product upstream of the needle bar.
