The device has a cam shaft (1) supported at a cylinder head, where a closing unit of the cam shaft stands in effective connection with a shaft (4) of a gas exchange valve (5) by a transmission closing device. A transmission unit is designed as a tappet (3) between an opening cam (2) and the shaft of the gas exchange valve. An actuator (13) of the closing unit stands in effective connection with a control cam (11) of the transmission closing device during the closing movement of the gas exchange valve from the beginning of process of acceleration in a negative region.
