<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform suitable display in either case that a screen is viewed in the upward direction or downward direction. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel which has liquid crystal charged between a pair of substrates, a pair of polarizing elements arranged on both sides of the liquid crystal panel to have axes of absorption orthogonally to each other, and domain control means which include a cyclic pattern of projections, hollows, slits provided to electrodes, or a combination thereof and control alignment of liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal panel. Alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules by the domain control means which are arranged periodically include a direction which is 45° to the axes of absorption of the polarizing elements and other directions. When no voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules are aligned substantially vertically to the substrate and when a voltage is applied, inclined directions of the liquid crystal molecules are controlled by the domain control means to a plurality of directions in each pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
