PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply recover a charge for using a printer. SOLUTION: This printer, which performs printing on a medium by means of a color material, comprises: a cartridge storage part which detachably houses a cartridge for housing the color material, fitted with an advance payment information storage part for storing advance payment information; an advance-payment-information reading/writing part which reads/writes the advance payment information between itself and the advance payment information storage part of the cartridge housed in the cartridge storage part; a printing control part which outputs a printing driving signal for controlling the printing; a printing part which performs the printing by means of the color material of the cartridge, on the basis of the printing driving signal output from the printing control part; a printing-driving-signal conversion part which acquires the printing driving signal output from the printing control part, so as to convert the printing driving signal into accounting information; and a clearing part which clears the advance payment information, read by the advance payment information reading/writing part, by using the accounting information converted by the printing-driving-signal conversion part.
