<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an LED capable of reducing deterioration caused by UV irradiation from an LED chip. <P>SOLUTION: The LED 10 comprises a flat plate shaped substrate 11, an LED chip 12 mounted to a chip mounting position on the substrate, and an inorganic glass lens cover 13 air tightly joined with the substrate through a joining material 15 so as to cover the LED chip on the substrate.
