PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of shortening a retrieval time at a focusing retrieval, and also, capable of appropriately focusing in accordance with photographing. SOLUTION: An AF function is operated with the half-depression of a shutter button of a digital camera, In this case, the present photographing mode previously selected with user's operation of switches or the like is obtained (100), and a focus lens is shifted to an AF retrieval start point in accordance with the obtained photographing mode.
