PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately correct the deviation of a focal position caused when a zoom ratio is changed while adjusting the focal position on an optional face as an object, regarding an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: When an image showing the face is detected by a detection part 82 out of the image imaged by an imaging lens, an actual distance from the imaging lens to the face as the object is obtained by a distance calculating part 84 by using standard face size information indicating the size of a face stored in a standard face size storage part 83, focal length information indicating the focal length of the imaging lens when the face as the object is imaged, and pickup image size information indicating the size of the face on the imaging surface 58a when the face is imaged. A control means 85 controls the focus lens group in the imaging lens so that a position away from the imaging lens by the actual distance may always become the focal position of the imaging lens in the midst of the focal length changing operation by the zoom lens in the imaging lens 20.
