PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for protecting a tuyere by which the breakage or the inclination of the tuyere caused by sinkage of bedding coke can surely be prevented during the preparation of an initial firing of a newly constructive or reconstructive blast furnace. SOLUTION: When wooden protectors are set so as to surround the tuyere after filling up sleepers on the bedding coke, the sinkage degree of the bedding coke is assumed and the interval between the upper end part of the tuyere and a member positioned in the wooden protector at the upper part of the tuyere is made to exceed the assumed value of the sinkage degree, and in this way, even when lowering the wooden protector accompanied with the sinkage of the bedding coke, the contact of the tuyere with the wooden protector can be avoided. Then, even if the wooden protector stood up at the front part of the tuyere in order to protect the tuyere collapses with sinkage of the bedding coke, since the wooden protector protects the tuyere, the breakage and the inclination of the tuyere can surely be prevented. Furthermore, since the height of a plinth of the wooden protector exceeds the assumed value of the sinkage rate, the collapse of the wooden protector can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
