Anhydrous hectographic dye formulations are prepared from a basic dye which still contains water by solution of the dye in a chlorinated hydrocarbon and removal of the water and chlorinated hydrocarbon by distillation, an ester wax being added to the chlorinated hydrocarbon or dye solution at any time prior to the distillation of the chlorohydrocarbon. The wax may be montan, ouricoury or particularly carnauba wax in a weight ratio wax: dye of 1:3 to 1:8; the chlorohydrocarbon may be carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene or particularly chloroform, and the dye crystal violet, chrysoidine, malachite green, fuchsine or Victoria blue dye. In the example the anhydrous product consists of 500 parts of dye and 100 parts carnauba wax.
|
