A method is provided for evaluating potential human or animal exposure to enzymatic activity as a result of the use of enzyme-containing solutions. The method includes preparing a reactor compound comprising a component that undergoes hydrolysis upon exposure to an enzyme having enzymatic activity, and exposing the reactor compound having a cloudy appearance to an environment in which enzymatic-containing fluid comprising the enzyme is used, wherein exposure of the reactor compound to a minimum threshold volume of enzymatic-containing fluid creates a zone of clearing in the reactor compound.
