PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DC magnet erase head which can protect recording contents of the magnetic tape and also can prevent damage to the permanent magnet, thereby can record a signal and data onto the magnetic tape in a good recording state when an already recorded magnetic tape approaches a permanent magnet of the DC magnet erase head. SOLUTION: The DC magnet erase head 20 is provided with a permanent magnet 21 having magnetic pole planes 21a, 21b causing a magnetic field magnetizing the magnetic tape MT in the one direction of a longitudinal direction, in the permanent magnet 21, at least a part of an external plane other than the magnetic pole planes 21a, 21b is covered by a magnetic shield 22 being a magnetic substance, while in the permanent magnet 21, at least magnetic pole planes 21a, 21b are covered by a protecting shield 23 being a non-magnetic substance.
