PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively recover a differential pressure energy of an EGR gas. SOLUTION: A turbine generator is used for an engine 2 has an EGR system in which an exhausted gas is again suctioned as the EGR gas through an EGR gas passage 12. The turbine generator is provided with a turbine 14 which is inserted into the EGR gas passage and is rotatably driven by the EGR gas, and a generator 22 for generating electricity while rotatably driven by the turbine with its rotary shaft connected with a rotary shaft 15 of the turbine. The turbine is inserted into the EGR gas passage upstream of an EGR gas heat exchanger 16. A controller 24 detects a differential pressure between an exhaust pressure detected by an exhaust pressure detecting sensor 18 and an intake air pressure detected by an intake air pressure detecting sensor 20, and makes the generator generate electricity when the differential pressure exceeds a predetermined pressure, and/or the turbine is used as an EGR compressor, so that the generator is operated as an electric motor when the differential pressure is not less than the predetermined pressure.
