PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic electric compressor with the size of a sealed container reduced and miniaturized in the axial direction of a compressor while retaining in the sealed container, capacity to reserve a required amount of refrigerating machine oil for maintaining the operation of an electric compressor in a vertical hermetic electric compressor. SOLUTION: In this hermetic electric compressor, a partitioning member 2 is so arranged that a compression mechanism part 9 or a bearing member 8 and an electric motor 5, and the structural member of the electric compressor arranged between the compression mechanism part 9 or the bearing member 8 and the electric motor 5 are surrounded and partitioned from a lubricating oil sump 11, and a clearance 4 to reserve refrigerating machine oil is arranged between the partitioning member 2 and the sealed container.
