Air heater for domestic tumbler dryers is protected against short circuits. A filter (1) is mounted downstream from an electric heater and has pores (13) of diameter fine enough to remove particles of a size which would cause a short circuit between the coils (26) of the heater element. Independent claims are included for: (A) domestic appliances, especially tumbler dryers and fans, fitted with the heater; (B) a set of components for building the heater; and (C) a cover plate for the rear wall of a tumbler dryer, into which an air heater as described is built.
