The process involves generating a check sum from a digital format, where the digital format is provided with a time stamp. The check sum and/or the digital format signed with the time stamp is registered in an identification document, where the identification document is registered and is deposited. The digital format is stored on a machine-readable storage medium, and an electronic finger print is generated as the check sum.
