PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methanol with low deterioration degree of activity at low temperature and low pressure, and in a continuous reaction even when there is a small amount of water, carbon dioxide or the like in a raw material.

SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for producing a methanol by performing a reaction using a raw material gas containing hydrogen and at least either of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst containing Cu, Mg, Na and Pd and alcohols in addition to at least one of sodium formate, rubidium carbonate and caesium carbonate.
