<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely reduce power consumption of a display device with simple constitution in the case of high-luminance display. <P>SOLUTION: A comparison operation section 216 performs comparison operation for pixel data corresponding to (n)th horizontal scanning lines of (N)th and (N-1)th frames of an input video signal, and a frame data prediction section 222 finds predicted values of all pixel data of the (N)th frame on the basis of the comparison operation result and the total value of all pixel data of the (N-1)th frame or the total value of all pixel data of the (n)th horizontal scanning line of the (N-1)th frame to the (n-1)th horizontal scanning line of the (N)th frame. When the predicted value exceeds a limit value, a luminance reduction rate calculation section 224 determines a luminance reduction rate for pixel data of the (n)th or succeeding horizontal scanning lines of the (N)th frame and applies it to pixel data to be supplied to a display panel. Luminance can be predicted on the basis of the comparison operation of data of one line to perform luminance reduction processing, so the power consumption of the display panel can be reduced with the simple constitution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
